FACULTY RESOURCES AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Bay Virtual School looks for full and part time teachers that share our school’s vision and mission of equitable access to high quality, individualized education, through the internet and other distance learning technologies to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade in Bay County. This virtual environment provides the flexibility of time and location, and promotes development of skills, attitudes, and self-discipline necessary to achieve success in the 21st century.

Bay Virtual School (BVS) is provided as a joint venture between Bay District Schools and Beacon Educator. This online school uses local teachers (grades 3-12) as part-time, adjunct faculty: teaching courses provided by Connections Learning, Florida Virtual School, and Edgenuity. In addition, we have a full-time teaching staff that rotates between the Credit Recovery Labs at the district’s five high schools and our Bay Virtual School Learning Lab.

Why consider becoming an adjunct for Bay Virtual School?
  • No office to visit or dress code to follow! Work from home, the coffee shop, or anywhere you wish. All you need is Internet access.
  • No lesson plans to develop! The curriculum and lesson plans are already developed by Florida Virtual School.
  • Motivated, successful students! Students CHOOSE to be there!

What do Bay Virtual teachers do?
  • Communicate with students (emails and phone calls)
  • Grade student work
  • Provide feedback to students

What training will be provided to Bay Virtual Adjuncts? Each adjunct must participate in two initial training sessions prior to being assigned any BVS students.
  • An online introductory course (12 hours of recorded training videos)
  • A face-to-face follow up training (approximately two hours)
  • Additional training will be provided during scheduled faculty meetings (“virtual” and face-to-face) during the school year. Individual mentoring by an experienced BVS teacher will also be provided.

Who should apply? How many openings are available?
Students register between July 1 and September 1. We will decide the exact number of teachers needed in each subject area as we work though the registration period. We add additional faculty as enrollments warrant. Summer school teachers are hired to work with students on credit recovery courses.

We offer all core content subjects (English, math, social studies and science) as well as additional courses such as Spanish, Personal Fitness, Life Management Skills, and Web Design. We need to build a pool of certified, highly qualified teachers in each of these subject areas.
